Fayaz Noormohamed

Executive Director, Global Futures

Fayaz Noormohamed is the Executive Director of the Global Futures at the University of Waterloo, where he oversees the development and operations of the Global Futures Office and the current $5 million Global Futures Fund. The Fund supports interdisciplinary and cross-campus initiatives in research, education, and service to advance the Global Futures and the university’s long-term strategic vision, Waterloo at 100. 

Noormohamed started his work at the university in 2021, initially focused on cross-institutional priorities and supporting the development of Waterloo at 100. Noormohamed held the position of Senior Director, Strategy and Implementation in the Office of the President, from 2023 to 2025. Through Fayaz’s leadership, the university is furthering its capacity for greater coordination, cooperation, and collaboration to best advance the five interconnected Global Futures for humanity and our planet.

Prior to joining the university, Noormohamed fulfilled several senior management roles over the past 12 years with the Aga Khan Development Network in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Noormohamed is presently a part-time doctoral student with a research interest in institutional entrepreneurship. He is a proud alum of the University of Waterloo with a BASc in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequent undergraduate and graduate degrees were completed in education and the social sciences, respectively. Noormohamed most recently earned his MBA in higher education management from University College London.
