Our friends at University of Waterloo's Games Institute (GI) will be hosting the GI Global Jam - Winter 2015. This is a great event for anyone interested in gamification, game research and game development:

"For the Winter 2015 GI (Global) Jam, we’re hosting a combined weekend of tutorials, talks, and game making madness! If you want to learn more about game development and design, you can listen to a series of tutorials from Games Institute and local community experts. If you just want to make a game, we’ll provide the space, power, and community.

The GI Jam event is modeled after traditional “game jam” events like the Global Game Jam and Ludum Dare but with two important twists: Mentor tutorials and no deadlines! Throughout the weekend, you can work to take your game idea from dream to playable. Mentors from the Games Institute will be giving talks and tutorials about how to brainstorm, prototype, and develop your own games; starting with paper prototype and Programming 101, through 2D and 3D development with Unity for digital games, and on towards mobile games and networked multiplayer."
