Human Factors Engineering - Dustin Weiler, PhD

On June 24th, 2022 at 4:00 PM (EST), our eighth speaker event of the year will feature Dustin Weiler, PhD. The UW HFES Student Chapter welcomes Dustin to give a talk about his perceived differences between industry and academic positions/careers, suggestions on preparing for interviews in the field, and certain job search strategies that he found helpful as he transitioned from a PhD student to industry engineer. After his talk, we will have a Q&A period with Dustin. You can anonymously submit your questions before the event here, but we will also take questions live.

Speaker Bio:

Dustin
Dustin is a Lead Human Factors Engineer with experience in sociotechnical systems research, UX research, and UX design. He has experience in applying HF concepts in domains such as healthcare, aviation, military applications, and consumer goods, working on products ranging from fighter jets to web-based applications. Dustin’s research has generated over 15 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and 7 podium/poster presentations at conferences around the world.

Dustin’s current job requires the application of human factors principles and methods to support the design, development, and testing of various products. He collaborates with engineers from multiple disciplines to participate in an Agile and Systems Engineering-centric development process to meet customer requirements and needs.

In December 2020, Dustin finished his Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in Human Factors/Ergonomics with a minor in Mixed Methods Research. He earned his Master's from the University of Louisville in Industrial Engineering in May 2017 and his Bachelor's from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in December 2014.
