Talk by Alessandro Jatoba

Alessandro Jatobá (AIDL lab) will be giving a talk on his Human Factors research during the last 1 year as a Visiting PhD Student at the University of Waterloo. Following his talk, a social will follow to say to goodbye to Alessandro. The talk will be on Wed June 3rd at 2:30 in E5 6111.

Bio: Alessandro Jatoba is a Split Ph.D. Visiting Scholar in Academic Exchange between the University of Waterloo and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), through the Brazilian “Science Without Borders” Scholarships Program.  His research involves Human factors issues in healthcare decision making and implications for the development of Information Technology.

Alessandro completed his Master’s degree in Computer Science at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has been working as a software engineer – and Computer Science lecturer for more than fifteen years and is currently at the National School of Public Health/Oswaldo Cruz Foundation in Brazil. He is also a researcher at the Group of Ergonomics and New Technologies (GENTE)/UFRJ.

During his Master’s, Alessandro specialized in Cognitive Engineering and its contributions to Computer Science. His thesis involved modeling complex sociotechnical systems and describing software requirements for the healthcare domain.

As the Brazilian Family Healthcare Program is the major strategy in the Brazilian Healthcare Framework, Alessandro believes that Information Technology plays an important role in improving healthcare services.  In addition, he also believes that in order to develop better software, we must first understand the people who use it.
