Bio
Hi, I’m Pete. I have an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio from the University of Waterloo. I started off in Engineering at UWaterloo and I was looking forward to a career designing cars.
I spent several years in Waterloo after graduation trying to find my place in world. I had my own design business – a couple of them. I worked for startups – successful and unsuccessful ones. And I also taught at Conestoga College.
It wasn’t until my wife and I packed up our home and moved our young family to California that I truly found myself and my voice. Sometimes you just have to ride the wave to see where it takes you.
In California, I held senior design roles at Intuit and Symantec – not the kind of companies people typically move to the Bay Area for. But during that time and learned a boat-load of stuff. I say that I earned the equivalent of my Masters & PhD in UX during my time in Silicon Valley.
We moved back this summer fresh from our 7.5 year adventure in the Bay Area. I’m currently contracting with D2L and mentoring startups out of Velocity Garage and Velocity Foundry.
