Hiring manager tool kit
The Hiring Manager Tool Kit is designed to assist managers in hiring permanent and temporary employees. All casual and student (grad, co-op, and work placement) hiring will take place through Workday. View the Job description writing guidelines and the 2020 Recruitment Deadlines (PDF) . An overview of the Job evaluation process is also available. Please contact your Human Resources Partner for any questions.
Regular full-time staff
Regular full-time staff are staff members with indefinite appointments (including staff members on 'contingent upon funding' appointments) where there is an expectation of two years or more in duration of the appointment, and where staff members have a work week of at least 35 hours. Learn more about employee definitions on our Employee Resources page.
Temporary appointment staff are staff members with definite-term appointments for periods exceeding three months but less than two years. Learn more about Temporary and Secondment Position Definitions (.pdf).
View the temporary appointment process details for more information on the posting process, interviews, and reference checks. Use the Change Form (PDF) to change a Temporary Appointment, including extensions less than 3 months.
Secondments & temporary reassignments
Secondments are fixed term opportunities for staff members to gain experience in another organizational unit, whereas temporary reassignments are intended for short-term coverage within the same organizational unit. Mission critical approval is not required for temporary reassignments. Learn more about the secondment process or view the Temporary and Secondment Position Definitions (PDF).
Student hiring (co-op, work placement, graduate)
Information on hiring a work placement student can be viewed on the Information for Employers web page on the Student Awards & Financial Aid website.
Casual earnings staff are staff members employed for less than three months or on intermittent bases or who do not have regularly scheduled hours of work, or who are employed under an arrangement where they may elect to work or not when requested to do so. Visit the Workday User Guides for Managers for more information on hiring casual employees.
