Overview:
Over the last few years, Apple has been “shaping” how Mac Admins manage Macintosh computers. This direction doesn’t fit with the current needs of our Waterloo community, and consequently, we’re finding we need to migrate away from concepts that have been used for decades. This session will briefly review these traditional methods, the roadblocks to these traditional solutions, and the new tools we’ve been using that will move us beyond “wipe and rebuild.”
Included in the session will be a demo of “Profile Manager” and App Store Deployment (using Apple’s “Volume Purchasing Program”).
Apple is not alone in pursuing this new Mobile Device Management (MDM) direction, so this session may also be of interest to those that are not managing Mac computers
Speakers:
Don Duff-McCracken has recently been appointed the interim Director at Mapping, Analysis and Design (MAD) and has been managing Macs since the days of floppy disks, zip drives and sneakernet.
Lowell Williamson entered IT just in time to deal with y2k (the biggest thing that never was) as a co-op student. Since then, he’s been making a variety of technologies work and providing hardware support in AHS.
