A summer of impactful leadership

This summer, Eric Bremner was in command of the Military Band (Juliet) Company at the Blackdown Cadet Training Centre inside Canadian Forces Base Borden. This company was comprised of approximately 150 cadets (ages 12 – 19) along with 22 adult staff (ages 19+). 

During his presentation, Eric will give an overview of the Canadian Cadet Movement, the Blackdown Cadet Training Centre, his experiences in command and all of the positive things that he is bringing back to the University. 

The presentation will be full of pictures and videos that were taken over the course of the summer.

Bio (civilian):

Eric Bremner is a developer with the WCMS team in Client Services inside IST. He has a Bachelor of Science in computer science and mathematics from Laurentian University, as well as a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. Eric began working at the University in early 2012 as a computer consultant for what is now University Relations, then transitioned to the WCMS team in 2014. He is the lead programmer for the UWaterloo Scholar project, along with working on the WCMS in both Drupal 7 and 8. He has presented at the Waterloo Region Drupal Users Group on topics including Open Scholar at the University of Waterloo and Drupal 8 theming with Pattern Lab. Eric is married to Sarah and has a herd of animals – 2 dogs and 7 cats.

Bio (military):

Lt(N) Eric Bremner began his cadet career with the Navy League Cadet Corps Newman in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, achieving the highest rank possible, Chief Petty Officer First Class. He then transferred to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Royal Sovereign and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer Second Class. Eric was a member of the drill teams and the unit’s drum and bugle band, serving as the lead horn player and soloist for two years. Once Eric aged out, he joined the Cadet Instructor Cadre as a Naval Cadet and received his Queen’s commission as a member of the Canadian Forces in February 2000. During his time as an officer, Eric served with the Regional Cadet Music Advisor as a music clinician and judge during band competitions. He attended many summer training centres, working with bands and different training departments at HMCS Ontario in Kingston and Blackdown Cadet Training Centre in Borden. Eric left the Regional Cadet Music Advisor to join the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Warspite in Kitchener since February of 2013. Since that time, Eric has served as Band Officer, Supply Officer, Training Officer and is currently serving as the Executive Officer.
