See below for a description of the positions on the Math GSA Board of Directors:
Chair
Term: Two Years
Duties include:

Be the official spokesperson of the Association.

Preside at meetings of the Executive Committee.
-
Cast the deciding vote when the Executive Committee is tied.
-
Be a signing officer of the Association.
-
Perform other duties as designated by the Executive Committee.
-
Hold an introductory session during the faculty orientation in September/January and introduce new students to the Association, its activities, and members, and inform new students of the upcoming election.
-
Coordinate with the GSA to introduce new students to the GSA and its services at the September orientation session.
-
Facilitate, with the GSA, the organization of elections in mid-September for all Executive positions and any Representatives.
-
Act as Treasurer in either of the following cases:
-
The sitting Treasurer is unable to perform their duties; or
-
The position of Treasurer is vacant.
-
Secretary
Term: Two Years
Duties include:
-
Ensure minutes of Executive Committee and Members’ Meetings are taken.
-
Keep custody of the documents of the Executive Committee.
-
Post notices of the agenda for meetings of the Executive Committee and Members’ Meetings.
-
Perform other duties as designated by the Executive Committee.
-
Act as Chair in either of the following cases:
-
The sitting Chair is unable to perform their duties; or
-
The position of Chair is vacant.
-
Treasurer
Term: Two Years
Duties include:
-
Attend monthly Math GSA Executive Committee meetings.
-
Keep accurate accounts of the finances of the Association.
-
Be a signing officer of the Association.
-
Assist the Executive Committee in the preparation of the annual budget of the Association.
-
Liaise with the GSA if technical assistance related to finances is needed.
-
Present complete financial statements to the Executive at the beginning and end of each year for approval by the membership.
-
Provide an update once per term on the state of the finances, including any changes between proposed and actual budgets.
-
Make financial information available to members upon request.
-
Perform other duties as designated by the Executive Committee.
Event Coordinator
Term: Two Years
Duties include:
-
Attend monthly Math GSA Executive Committee meetings.
-
Coordinate events and programs of the Association.
-
Design and distribute promotional materials for events.
-
Communicate events and information to the members.
-
Maintain the event planning manual.
-
Assist the Treasurer in the preparation of the annual budget of the Association.
-
Perform other duties as designated by the Executive Committee.
Social Coordinator
Term: Two Years
Duties include:
-
Attend monthly Math GSA Executive Committee meetings.
-
Assist the Event Coordinator in planning and hosting events.
-
Plan and host events if the Event Coordinator is unable to do so.
-
Design and distribute promotional materials for the Association.
-
Maintain and update the Association’s social media accounts, email lists, and website.
-
Communicate events and information to the members.
-
Perform other duties as designated by the Executive Committee.
Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-R) Officer
Term: Two Years
Duties include:
-
Attend monthly Math GSA Executive Committee meetings.
-
Ensure that Section 7.01 related to Equity and Inclusion is adequately fulfilled within the faculty.
-
Strive to attend any EDI-R-related training offered by the GSA, Faculty, or University and inform the Executive Committee of any information learned.
-
Raise students’ concerns or issues with the appropriate administrative person within the faculty. If required, take the issue to the University’s EDI-R office.
-
Support, within their capacity, individuals or groups working toward EDI initiatives and building a welcoming environment for the broader community.
Department Directors
Term: Two Years
Duties include:
-
Attend monthly Math GSA Executive Committee meetings.
-
Serve as a councillor at the GSA Council and attend monthly GSA Council meetings.
-
At Executive Committee and Council meetings, discuss any concerns, suggestions, or comments from graduate students in their department.
-
Be accessible to students in their department/program via email so that they may make any concerns known.
-
Promote and inform students in their department about social events organized by the Math GSA and GSA.
-
Serve as a point of contact for graduate students in their respective departments for information on resources and assistance with issues.
-
Find an alternate to attend in their place if they cannot attend the meetings mentioned above.
-
Perform other duties as designated by the Executive Committee.
