A distinctive event space that will define the Waterloo student journey–from visiting high school student to engaged undergraduate to returning alumni.
The Gradient Gallery is a stunning, open-concept event space. It will feature two levels, a gallery, stadium seating and a skyfold door that opens to an outdoor space. The space will serve as a striking and welcoming venue for CEMC outreach activities, entrepreneurial programming, alumni events and community engagement of all kinds. When not in use for events, it will function as a collision space where students and faculty can meet to share a coffee, discuss group projects or study independently. The Gradient Gallery was also designed with Indigenous ceremonies in mind. It faces East and will be equipped with a ventilation system that will allow smudging ceremonies.
The Gradient Gallery will be the first space many math students see at the University of Waterloo when they visit for a CEMC or recruitment event or a first-year orientation activity. And it will become a space they return to again and again throughout their time as a student and then as a returning alum. It will become an iconic part of the Faculty of Mathematics campus presence and hold a special place in the hearts of future Mathies.

Envision the space
We have a world-class Faculty of Mathematics here at Waterloo. And it’s not just because we recruit the brightest students, or the most accomplished professors. It’s because we understand what math is and what it takes to pursue it. We bring together people who are curious, collaborative, and stubborn. We find ways to bring the best out of each other. We make space for students not just to grow as students, but as people. We invest in our future as a faculty.
