More than 80 donors supported the Engineering Student Teams Fund with over $22,000 in donations.
More than 90 donors supported The Equity Fund with a total of $27,000 in donations.
Primary care physicians are sending referrals with a keyhole view of the network of specialists available — at great cost to patients — and RelayMD founders Dhvani Patel and Dr. Ali Qamar are pioneering a way to improve the process.
RelayMD was one of four finalists to receive $5,000 at Velocity’s $5K Pitch Competition in November. Patel and Qamar said winning the competition is one stop on the journey to solve this “perpetual and recurring issue” in the Canadian health-care system.

Born in Mexico, Dr. Sandra Lopez-Rocha has been working in the field of intercultural learning since the mid 1990s, at a time when the field experienced exponential growth. Since then, she has accumulated a wealth of both professional and academic knowledge on the subject matter. After completing an MA in Intercultural Communication and a PhD in Language, Literacy and Culture at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, she ambitiously pursued a second PhD in Social Anthropology in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Lynne Sargent’s research focuses on what she defines as the “techno-inclusive model of disability,” which has practical application for the ways that disabled people live their lives in digital and physical spaces.
Data is the currency of tomorrow, with boundless opportunities, but there needs to be a common standard for how that currency is created and used, said Canada’s chief data steward.
Anil Arora, Chief Statistician of Canada for Statistics Canada, was the keynote speaker at the Fall Industry Day on Monday, hosted by the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute (Waterloo.AI) and Communitech.
