In late February, the Region needed a vaccine clinic to serve downtown Kitchener. Joe Lee and the Centre for Family Medicine (CFFM) stepped forward. When it came to finding an appropriate location, CFFM asked their neighbour, the School of Pharmacy.
“The word ‘no’ isn’t in our vocabulary,” says Trenny McGinnis, pharmacy’s administrative officer. “Our executive team had already implemented changes to support the vaccine effort, from injection-training students earlier in the program to creating COVID educational materials. Partnering on a clinic was a logical next step.”
As our population grows and ages, pharmacists play an increasingly important role in providing patient care. Today’s pharmacists not only dispense medication, they care for patients directly, providing education and advice. And sometimes — as in the case of Pharmacy student Lisa Ros-Choi — they do much more.

Waterloo recently received new advice from the Medical Officer of Health for the Region of Waterloo that strongly recommended a change to our plans for students living in residences. In response to the advice, Waterloo will now require that students living in our residences for the 2021-2022 academic year be vaccinated against COVID-19.
