Adolescent brain health

How do everyday lifestyle behaviors impact the adolescent brain? In a new study, PN lab member Mia Papasideris used mobile functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to image brain activity on-site in school settings.  She finds that a number of behaviors influence brain health, and some even impact academic achievement.

A better future

As a parent of a mixed-race child, I care about his future and his ability to live in a world where he is not judged or treated differently based on the colour of his skin. I support diversity and inclusion at all levels, and I am against racism against black, indigenous, and Asian persons, and other people of colour.

In the largest and most highly powered study to date, involving nearly 10,000 Canadian adolescents, a near zero magnitude relationship was observed between physical exercise in adolescents and academic performance. Read more about this study here.
