Beyond Expectations

A Message from the Director

The Waterloo School of Pharmacy has always taken a bold approach to research and education. In just over a decade we have created a pharmacy school like no other.

In 2014, we launched our first strategic plan. Although the plan was ambitious, we were able to accomplish the vast majority of our goals. We successfully transitioned to the PharmD as the entry-to-practice undergraduate degree. We implemented a bridging PharmD program for Waterloo graduates. Our graduate programs are developing researchers who will tackle the important medication and health-related problems of the 21st century. Our faculty research programs are thriving and we have close to 1,000 alumni that are making their mark in the pharmacy profession and scientific community.

With this new strategic plan (2020 - 2025), we will extend our reputation as Canada’s most innovative School of Pharmacy. We will leverage our strength in experienced-based education to produce practice-ready pharmacists who deliver exemplary patient care. We will continue to identify and tackle systemic racism in all its forms, fostering an equitable learning environment. Our alumni will be the change agents leading the way as the role of the pharmacist in the health care system continues to evolve.  We will continue to develop talent through our graduate programs and implement a new Master of Pharmacy program to train advanced pharmacy practitioners. We will support interdisciplinary, transformational research and ensure our research achievements are effectively communicated to maximize impact.

Our collaborative culture is key to our success, and we will continue to build local, national and international partnerships that will help achieve our vision and mission.  We are committed to empowering our people to succeed, supporting their health and wellness and implementing initiatives that build a diverse, inclusive community.

Embracing change and finding innovative solutions to real world problems is embedded in our culture. I have no doubt that the faculty, staff and students at Waterloo Pharmacy will go “beyond expectations” in achieving our goals for the next five years.
