Going social to support local organizations
For the second year, students in the Master of Digital Experience Innovation (MDEI) program are working with local organizations to develop Social Media Marketing Plans (SMMPs) as part of their Principles of Marketing in a Globalized World course.
The project, conceived by instructor Kathleen Rodenburg, sees students take on the role of consultant as they work through the assignment. This year features a new roster of clients including The Local Community Food Centre, Local Initiative for Future Energy Co-operative, Stratford Public Library, Gallery Stratford, and Stratford Perth Community Foundation. Each group is responsible for conducting research, arranging meetings, providing updates and reports, and presenting final recommendations.
Their final report will provide clients with a comprehensive overview of their findings, including an assessment of opportunities and threats, insights into their target audience, specific strategies for engagement, and a plan to make it all happen.
For students, it creates an environment where they "learn by doing;" applying teachings from their class, and working to manage a strategic marketing process. For employers, it providesĀ a fresh perspective, and the opportunity to evaluate current programs and integrate best practices. It's a model that connects theory and practice, and creates a win-win opportunity for everyone.
