Are you looking to empower your student staff with essential leadership skills? Encourage them to enrol in the Community Leadership Certificate (CLC) program.
CLC replaces the Student Leadership Program (SLP) and Foundational Training Program (FTP). In response to feedback and insights gathered from current students, including student leaders and co-op students, through focus groups, feedback forms and more, the decision was made to combine the two programs. By combining SLP and FTP, the goal is to provide a more cohesive and impactful learning journey for students.
CLC offers a tailored curriculum designed to foster effective, curiosity-driven leadership among undergraduate and graduate students. Made by students, for students, these workshops provide invaluable insights into anti-oppressive and community-centered leadership practices.
The program comprises four sequential workshops:
-
Foundations of Collaborative Leadership: Help students discover their authentic leadership voice and understand the significance of community-focused leadership.
-
Leading with Curiosity: Equip students with the ability to use curiosity as a tool to challenge oppressive systems and cultivate inclusive leadership practices.
-
Collaborative Team Building: Explore strategies to break down traditional workplace hierarchies and leverage team members' strengths to foster inclusivity.
-
Harm Reductive Communication and Conflict Resolution: Provide students with the skills to navigate conflicts empathetically, drawing from the principles of Harm Reduction and Restorative Justice.
Upon completion of the workshops, students are required to accumulate 10 leadership hours through paid or volunteer positions, along with a guided reflection.
By promoting CLC to your co-op students, you not only enhance their leadership capabilities but also contribute to building a more inclusive and empowered community at the University of Waterloo.
