Strategic Web-based Toolbox for Development & Maintenance of University of Waterloo Websites

Proposal to discuss need for a strategic web-based toolkit for the development and maintenance of Waterloo websites. As well as, the integration of this toolkit with SEW courses - with SEW courses focussing on chapters or sections of the toolbox.

For example, the Government of Canada's (GoC) web toolbox is accessible to anyone who works on GoC websites either internally or externally:

Part of this toolbox focuses on an aspect of content authoring. So, for example, the sub-sections of this particular content authoring resource can then be used to form the curriculum of a course (i.e. Introduction; Organise Your Ideas; Use the Right Language; etc).

Importantly, a University of Waterloo toolbox need not be as large and extensive as the GoC toolbox. Waterloo specific requirements would need to be considered to best meet Waterloo needs and objectives.

This is a proposal for consideration a web-based University of Waterloo web toolbox that can assist University of Waterloo web personnel with development and maintenance of University of Waterloo websites, and that is tied directly to SEW courses.

While this is a long term vision, it does form a potential framework for near term issues. For example, a number of University of Waterloo websites are weak in terms of writing for the web. A near term SEW course could be developed and delivered that simultaneously starts forming the University of Waterloo web toolbox section on Effective Writing for the Web. (EG)
