- Brad Galway attended the meeting to present the modules he has been working on in Drupal for Undergrad Recruitment in collaboration with the WCMS team.
- One of the modules he has worked on is the “Admissions requirements” page.
- Kris Olafson and the WCMS team were hesitant to publicize that developing your own modules was an option because they wanted to see how the first project went.
- For those interested in working on their own modules in Drupal please contact Kris Olafson. His team has resources, training videos and documents they can provide.
Questions & answers
Q. What kinds of resources/costs are associated with developing your own modules?
A. Staffing and a server provided by IST. Working with Kris Olafson throughout the process has made it significantly easier. It is a learning process so it should only get easier the more we do it.
5. Waterloo CMS Update (Heather Wey/Liam Morland)
-
Training update (Heather Wey)
-
We are developing a hands-on site manager course.
-
Feedback provided suggested having a more hands-on style of training.
-
It is currently presentation style in MC 2009 and lasts 2 hours; we would need to increase it to 3 hours and offer the course more frequently to accommodate all of the people interested in taking it.
-
-
We have contacted Logan Atkinson regarding adding a note in our Web forms course to comply with the Canadian Anti-spam legislation. It will notify site maintainers that when asking someone to join a mail list, they cannot have a check box default to be “yes”
-
New “How-to” training options are available for some of the new features in the v1.8 release.
-
-
Technical update (Kris Olafson)
-
There have been a few small fixes since the v1.8 update.
-
Will begin work on the GIT migration soon.
-
New content type discussions are in the works; one related to undergrad awards and one on job opportunities.
-
Will report back with more updates at the next meeting.
-
6. Marketing and Strategic Communications Update (Andrea Sweet)
- No updates to report.
7. Web Accessibility Compliance project (Rose Padacz)
- Continuing to look at everything regarding web accessibility.
- Will be looking to get some consultation from this committee on some projects, so it is likely that we will bring some presentations to future meetings.
