Minutes of April 2022 and Business Arising

The minutes were accepted as distributed.

Chair's remarks (Don Duff-McCracken)

  • Don wanted to take this time to apologize to the group, after the last WAC minute things become a bit de-railed. Moving forward will ensure that to be more proactive and re-frame questions to the group if needed.
  • Welcomed Elisabetta Paiano from the Faulty of Math to the committee

Overview update (Greg Smith)

  • Slides from the presentation can be found here

WCMS 3 Development (Kevin Paxman)

  • 3.1.9 is now on all WCMS 3 sites. Release notes are on the Web Resources site. Highlights include:
    • Added support for populating fillable PDFs from form submissions
    • Removed site footer area when there is no published site footer
    • Adjusted content listing pages so that the number of filters no longer affects the height of the items in the content list
  • 3.1.10 will begin to be built later this week, and pushed out to all sites shortly thereafter; release notes will be posted after it has been built.
  • Authenticated sites and the Bibliography replacement (aka BibCite/References/Publications/Biblio) are still coming soon, but not until 3.1.11 at the earliest
    • Authenticated sites ship with the same limitations as WCMS 2, where files and images are not covered by the protection, and remain that way for the foreseeable future – SharePoint remains the recommended environment for higher security needs like that
  • Focus points in the current sprint include:
    • Prepping for more frequent scheduled publishing runs
    • Adding auto-logout after 24 hours of inactivity
    • Finishing remaining facts and figures functionality for WCMS 2 parity
    • Adding help text to “send from” in the web-form email handler to note that it must be an “@uwaterloo.ca” address, and using “reply-to” is recommended instead when emails are not limited to campus accounts
  • Internet Explorer support has officially ended today; if you have legacy web applications that require IE, you can use Microsoft Edge with IE mode for them, but you should investigate updating/replacing those applications.
  • Scheduled publishing for all live WCMS 3 sites now checks every 5 minutes to see if there is anything to publish/un-publish.
  • our WCMS QA dev coop posting is now up – job ID 266379, if you happen to know anyone who might be a good fit, make sure they apply by June 21
