Kerry Freek

Kerry Freek has worked in the water and cleantech industry for more than 15 years. She is an experienced, well-networked marketing and communications leader with a focus on strategies that benefit innovative organizations, healthy ecosystems, and a sustainable economy.  

Prior to joining XPV Water Partners in 2022 as Director, Marketing and Communications, Kerry was Vice President of WaterTAP, Ontario’s water technology accelerator. Here she was part of a team that supported the growth of hundreds of SMEs, promoted the province’s unmatched water industry talent and expertise, and participated in a global network of similar hubs based in North America, Europe, and Asia.  

As founding Editor of Water Canada and Associate Editor of ReNew Canada, Kerry covered water and infrastructure industry news across the country. In 2014, Rocky Mountain Books published Flood Forecast: Climate Risk and Resiliency in Canada, a book she co-authored with Robert W. Sandford. The late Dr. David Schindler called it “required reading for 21st century politicians.”  

Most recently, Kerry was the founding Executive Director of the Ontario Clean Technology Industry Association, working with a board of established leaders to build capacity across the province’s emerging and impressive cleantech sector.  

Kerry is an active member of the community and has participated on several boards and committees, including Water For People-Canada's Board of Directors, University of Toronto’s Water Finance Committee, and the Ontario Environment Industry Association’s Water Committee, Currently, she is a member of the founding board of an emerging chemtech accelerator. Kerry holds an honours degree in English Rhetoric and Professional Writing from the University of Waterloo, where she specialized in Arts Management.

In addition to being a certifiable water nerd and a big Blue Jays fan, Kerry is passionate about sustainable fashion. In her spare time, she is (slowly) sewing her own wardrobe.
