Dr. Scott Tremaine is a distinguished Canadian astrophysicist, renowned for his pioneering studies showing that supermassive black holes reside at the centres of galaxies, his work on Saturn’s rings, and his investigations of the dynamics of galaxies.
It’s 3,300 kilometres from the University of Waterloo to the Caribbean’s Saba University School of Medicine but this year’s Faculty of Science Valedictorian, Justen Wilmot, BSc, Biomedical Science (medical physiology minor) is looking forward to the long trek to fulfill his dream of pursuing a career in medicine.
Caroline de Lima Vargas Simoes, Harold Hodgins, and Jacqueline Caminiti are among this year’s recipients of the prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS). The Vanier CGS program awards $50,000 per year for three years to students completing their doctoral studies in social sciences and humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and health.
Olla Mohamad Ahmed Obied, an international student from Sudan, embarked on her academic journey to Canada five years ago to study Geoscience at the University of Waterloo. Grant Brassem is part of the third cohort of students to embark on the Quantum Technology specialization within the Master of Science in Physics program. This new 12-month, course-based degree lets him utilize the state-of-the-art IQC laboratories for independent projects and make meaningful connections with industry mentors, startups, and a community of over 300 quantum researchers.
