Health Studies and Gerontology  MSc

The MSc in Health Studies and Gerontology provides a trans-disciplinary, population health approach to addressing health and health system challenges in Canada and around the world. Our approach focusses on improving the health of the population across the lifespan and on reducing inequalities affecting the health of various subpopulations. You'll learn how to use research to improve the management and accountability of health promotion programs, and health or healthcare systems. Kinesiology MSc

Full- or part-time | On campus | Thesis-based

The MSc in Kinesiology focusses on optimizing health, preventing injury and illness, and extending years of high-quality life through understanding cellular to societal implications of physical activity, nutrition, and lifestyle. Your course work and research are focused in one of three areas: biomechanics, neuroscience or physiology. Not only will you become an expert in your particular area, you will gain an understanding of how your area of research impacts other aspects of human movement. Public Health  MPH

Full- or part-time | Online | Course-based

The MPH in Public Health provides a broad understanding of public health and the knowledge, tools, and skills for management/leadership roles in public health settings. The program highlights evidence-informed practice in public health, sociobehavioural health, environmental health, and public health informatics. Offered online, the MPH offers flexibility for the working professional and can be completed in 2-4 years. Recreation and Leisure Studies  MA

Full- or part-time | On campus | Thesis-based

In the MA in Recreation and Leisure Studies, you'll study leisure and leisure behaviour from a variety of social science perspectives. The program is designed to increase knowledge of the theories and concepts of leisure, and of the contributions by the social sciences, the natural sciences, and the humanities for understanding leisure. You'll learn to conduct independent scholarly research through coursework and a thesis (normally completed during second year under the supervision of a faculty member). Tourism Policy and Planning  MA

Full- or part-time | On campus | Thesis-based

Tourism Policy and Planning is available as a Master of Arts through the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies or a MES through the Faculty of Environment. The MA program integrates social, cultural, environmental, economic and political perspectives on tourism. You'll gain a broad knowledge of theory and research in tourism focused on the needs and critical evaluation of tourism. Aging, Health and Well-being  PhD

The PhD in Aging, Health and Well-being provides you with an interdisciplinary platform upon which to develop a broad understanding of issues related to the health and well-being of our aging population. You can register in any of the academic units in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences and access courses and resources across the Faculty, including dissertation committee members, who can add different perspectives to penetrating research problems. Health Studies and Gerontology  PhD

The doctoral program in Health Studies and Gerontology offers a trans-disciplinary, population health approach to addressing health and health system challenges in Canada and around the world. The program will provide you with an interdisciplinary focus, specialized training, and advanced research skills. You'll add further depth and specialization to your work through the research apprenticeship model. The doctoral program in Kinesiology focusses on optimizing health, preventing injury and illness, and extending years of high-quality life through understanding cellular to societal implications of physical activity, nutrition, and lifestyle. The PhD program in Recreation and Leisure Studies provides the opportunity for advanced study and research in the field. You'll learn to analyze and evaluate programs, policies, and organizational structures aimed at understanding and improving the use of free time and the quality of life. You'll be equipped to apply and disseminate knowledge to practitioners, policy makers and managers. The program provides opportunities for teaching and research assistantships, and culminates with the completion of a doctoral thesis. Work and Health  PhD

The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) is committed to the prevention of illness and injury, optimization of health, and quality of life. The PhD in Work and Health provides an interdisciplinary platform for investigating these issues as they relate to safe, healthy work environments and to achieving a work-life balance.
