The Canada Council for the Arts announces Conrad Speckert (BAS '19) as the recipient of the 2024 Prix de Rome in Architecture — Emerging Practitioners Award.

The winner of the Prix de Rome in Architecture — Emerging Practitioners is Conrad Speckert, an intern architect at LGA Architectural Partners with degrees from McGill University and the University of Waterloo (BAS '19). He is currently leading a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation-sponsored research project to develop alternative solutions to the building code requirement for two staircases in small multi-unit residential buildings and has proposed a corresponding change to the National Building Code of Canada.

The Canada Council Prix de Rome in Architecture – Emerging Practitioners is awarded to a recent graduate of a Canadian school of architecture who demonstrates exceptional potential in contemporary architectural design.

The prize recipient will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of contemporary architecture culture by visiting a selection of works of architecture abroad, and to expand their professional skills through an internship of their choosing at an architectural firm outside of Canada.
