David Correa, James Clarke-Hicks and Isabel Ochoa to deliver keynote at BE-AM 2022

Thursday, October 27, 2022

Waterloo professor David Correa, James Clarke-Hicks and Isabel Ochoa will deliver a keynote address at the 2022 BE-AM Symposium being held at Formnext in Frankfurt, Germany as well as being viewable via an online stream.

Combining traditional ceramics, smart geometry and robotic precision, the presentation covers a set of investigations that explore the role of 3D printing in the development of functional structures at multiple scales. The work engages full scale prototyping of differentiated masonry components, experimental façade systems and integrated light fixtures. Projects range from academic investigations and experimental prototypes to recently installed commercial applications. Each project celebrates the unique properties of clay through a dialogue between digitally controlled positioning and a highly expressive form finding process. Challenges, new insights and research outlooks are positioned in relation to each scale of work.

BE-AM | Built Environment Additive Manufacturing is a network, annual symposium, and annual exhibition that brings together experts in 3d printing and additive manufacturing from industry, academia, design and architecture. It is a platform to share and discuss ideas, projects and technologies. The event is hosted by the Formnext fair in Frankfurt, and organized by Prof. Ulrich Knaack, Prof. Oliver Tessmann, Dr.-Ing. Philipp Rosendahl, Bastian Wibranek and Chris Borg Costanzi from the Technical University of Darmstadt.
