(Ron)
Read
died
on
January
7,
2019
at
the
age
of
94.
Professor
Read
joined
the
University
of
Waterloo
in
1970
and
retired
in
1990.
His
fields
of
research
included
the
enumeration
of
graphs,
and
the
study
of
chromatic
polynomials
and
graph
isomorphism.
He
was
also
a
pioneer
in
the
use
of
computers
in
graph-theoretic
research.
Professor
Read
was
well
known
for
his
1968
conjecture
that
the
sequence
of
absolute
values
of
the
coefficients
of
a
graph's
chromatic
polynomial
is
unimodal.
Read's
conjecture
was
proven
forty-two
years
later
by
June
Huh.
A
memorial
service
will
