The Government of Canada announced that study permit applications received by May 15 will be processed by August 6, ensuring a final permit decision before the fall term begins. We understand this has raised questions about when Offers of Admission will be received.
The final round of admissions evaluation is underway, and we are doing everything we can to complete all decisions prior to May 15. If you do not already have an admissions decision, you will hear from us soon.
You can still apply for your study permit after May 15.
We are preparing a fall term that will support your learning whether you are on campus or not. If you face difficulties getting to campus by September, we will help you explore other options to complete your program requirements. While we plan to deliver significantly more in-person learning, work and research in the fall 2021 term, our plan will be flexible so we can tackle unexpected challenges.
We have made several adjustments to our admissions process to accommodate student application challenges during the global pandemic.
Please feel free to include this letter as part of your study-permit application.
Thank you again – we hope to see you in the fall!

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
