Paolo Dominelli receives New Frontiers in Research funding

Paolo Dominellia professor in Kinesiology and Health Sciences, was one of two researchers in the Faculty of Health to receive funding from the Government of Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF). Warren Dodd from the School of Public Health Sciences was the other, for a total of six recipients from the University of Waterloo.

Dominelli, along with co-principal investigator Elizabeth Weckman from Engineering, received $245,866, from the Exploration competition for “A Next Generation Fire Safety Companion: Grounded in Science, Embracing Population Diversity.”

The NFRF awarded more than $45 million in support for research projects for 751 researchers, including 245 early career researchers. Research teams of two or more are receiving grants of up to $250,000 each over two years.

The projects were part of two competitions: the 2021 Exploration competition and the NFRF special call on Innovative Approaches to Research in the Pandemic Context.
