Ian Evans

March 13, 2014

Ian was born and raised in Mississauga, Ontario and completed an undergraduate program in Geography & Environmental Management with a specialization in Geomatics at the University of Waterloo. His current research interests are (1) integrating the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) into Land Use/Cover Change (LUCC) models and (2) characterizing natural landscapes as a model for reclamation planning in Alberta, Canada. Through these projects, he is pursuing a growing interest computer programming. Outside of the academic world, he enjoys reading, cycling, and writing and...

Junyi Wang

March 13, 2014

Junyi completed her Bachelor of Environmental Studies Degree in 2013 specializing in Geomatics at the University of Waterloo. With programming and spatial analysis skills and some recent work experience with Bell Mobility, she is keen to derive analytics from large volumes of data to discover hidden patterns relevant to real-world decision making. Undergraduate projects of interest include: assessing optimal land cover change detection methods for application at the urban-rural fringe using multi-temporal Landsat-TM images; and image segmentation evaluation to validate spatial and...

Keith Davey

March 12, 2014

Keith is currently working towards the completion of his undergraduate degree in Geomatics, with a minor in Computer Science, at the University of Waterloo. He will be beginning his Masters in May 2014 with the general direction of building tools for empirically informing agent-based models for use in agricultural decision-making. As part of his research, Keith will be working with Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and Socio-Ecological Infrastructure acquired through the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. His broader research interests include Web 2.0 geographic information systems, geographic...

Li Zhang

January 6, 2014

Li Zhang joins our research team from China. She started working with Dr. Robinson on her undergraduate thesis, which involved conducting a social survey and analyzing the spatial distribution of carbon emissions from different human activities. Currently Li is working on a carbon estimation project that involves comparing multiple carbon assessment approaches to estimate carbon storage in forested landscapes. With great interest in carbon estimation, Li will be focusing her Master’s research on carbon flux estimation in agricultural systems using an agent-based modeling approach that...

Bogdan Caradima

May 1, 2013

Bogdan Caradima joins the Estimating Market Potential project with an undergraduate degree in environmental studies and a keen interest in ecology and GIS. While Bogdan’s undergraduate focus has been on species distribution models, his graduate studies seek to implement an Ontario-wide suitability analysis for retail development in an agent-based model of spatial resource competition. Bogdan’s interests also extend into methods of multi-criteria evaluation, land use change modelling, and how these methods relate to ecological models and impacts.
