Two recent Master students have been recognized by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for their Masters theses. Ryan Snider and Ahmed El-Hadidy, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, are the first and second place recipients, respectively, of the 2012 AWWA Academic Achievement Awards for best Master's thesis. This award recognizes the theses as the best Master's theses from the United States, Canada, and Mexico on the basis of originality, practical application, value to the water supply field, potential value as a reference, and overall clarity.
Ryan Snider's MASc thesis was titled "Impact of Design and Operational Parameters on Rapid, Deep Bed Biological Filtration of Drinking Water". His research and thesis were supervised by Monica Emelko, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Ahmed El-Hadidy's MASc thesis was entitled "Removal of Enteric Viruses by Ultrafiltration". He was supervised by Drs. Sigrid Peldszus, Michele I. Van Dyke and Peter M. Huck, NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Water Treatment, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The AWWA Academic Achievement Awards encourage academic excellence by recognizing contributions to the field for public water supply. The awards will be presented at the 2012 AWWA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Dallas, Texas, June 10-14, 2012.
