Teaching Critical Engagement with AI (CTE7560)
Typical Format: In-person workshop
Description: Conversations about the role and impact of AI in education are multi-layered, contentious, and evolving. The range of AI adoption and integration is vast among instructors and students, and therefore it is necessary to create space within classes to critically engage with AI, while limiting additional strain on individual instructors. Using University of Saskatchewan’s AI Literacy Framework as a foundation, this workshop presents five key dimensions of AI literacy (understanding AI and data; critical thinking and judgment; ethical and responsible use; human-centricity, relationality, and creativity; and domain expertise). As a practical component, participants will share and reflect on examples specific to their teaching context.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify key dimensions of AI literacy related to teaching and learning.
- Consider strategies for integrating opportunities for students to critically engage with AI in your teaching context.
- Appreciate that diverse perspectives related to AI may emerge in teaching and learning communities.
Note: This workshop provides opportunities for small group and large group discussions. Participants are welcome to participate by listening, thinking about examples, and/or contributing to conversations throughout.
Indigenous Perspectives on AI (CTE7559)
Typical Format: Online
Description: AI is rapidly changing the education landscape and the overall student experience in higher education. Join us as we discuss Indigenous perspective on AI, balanced with a review of the Critical AI framework & theories and AI as another wave of colonialism.
We will spend the second portion of the session in a sharing circle to further discuss the topics covered.

Integrating GenAI in Assessments (CTE7551)
Typical Format: In-person workshop
Description: AI capabilities are rapidly advancing, now matching or exceeding student-level work across multiple domains such as writing, coding, and analysis. These developments are reshaping teaching practices and course dynamics, prompting educators to rethink assessments, redesign curriculum, and equip students with the skills needed to effectively navigate and leverage AI in their future careers.
This workshop will introduce a modified version of Perkins’ AI Assessment Scale (AIAS), designed to support transparent and meaningful conversations between instructors and students about the role of AI in course assessments. The scale outlines varying levels of AI integration, from complete restriction to full incorporation. Participants will have the opportunity to explore first-hand which AI tools and approaches may be appropriate for their classroom. To fully engage in the hands-on activities, please bring your laptop, a document (e.g., slides, PDF), and a content question (e.g., practice problem, tutorial) that you are comfortable inputting into AI tools. Some content questions will be provided for those who wish not to use their own.
Note: This is not an assessment re-design workshop. Please contact CTE staff for re-design support.

Using GenAI to Enhance Student Learning (CTE7552)
Typical Format: In-person workshop
Description: GenAI tools are transforming education by providing new ways to support, individualize, and deepen student learning. But, to unlock their full potential, educators and students must learn to prompt effectively.
This interactive workshop introduces participants to the PLOC framework – Persona, Level, Output, and Context – a structured, low barrier-to-entry approach to crafting prompts that yields high-quality, educationally valuable responses from GenAI tools. Drawing on insights from Mollick & Mollick (2023), we will explore how AI can act as several different personas and how intentional prompting can foster critical thinking, creativity, and engagement across disciplines. Whether you're new to AI tools or looking to refine your approach, this workshop will equip you with practical approaches and prompts to make GenAI a meaningful part of your teaching and your students' learning.
This workshop will follow a 60+30 format (60 minutes interactive presentation followed by 30 minutes of structured AI exploration and discussion). To fully engage in the hands-on activities, please bring your laptop. Bring a written response to an assignment question, essay, or project if you are comfortable inputting it into AI tools. GenAI in Teaching Material Development (CTE7553)
Typical Format: In-person workshop
Description: This workshop explores practical ways GenAI can assist in developing a wide range of teaching materials. Focus areas include: i) course planning and design, ii) creation of lecture content and instructional materials, iii) creation of (formative) assessments, and iv) creation of interactive and creative content. To tailor the session to participants' needs, a brief pre-workshop poll will be conducted to help prioritize which aspects to emphasize.

Accessibility and GenAI (CTE7554)
Typical Format: Online webinar
Description: This session is designed for instructors and staff who want to create more inclusive learning environments while navigating the opportunities and challenges of emerging AI tools.
What You’ll Learn:
- Common barriers to accessibility and how AI can be used to address them
- Examples for AI-supported accessible course design and implementation
- Emerging issues and barriers when integrating AI into teaching and learning
Note: This webinar provides opportunities for engagement, but participation is optional. Participants are welcome to join in by listening, actively participating in some of the guided examples, and/or contributing to conversations throughout.

Experimenter
Assessment Redesign and Generative Artificial Intelligence (CTE7556)
Typical Format: In-person workshop
Description: Please note this is a two-part workshop.
This assessment redesign workshop explores the implications of GenAI for assessment design, offering strategies to both harness GenAI as a learning tool and address challenges. Over two half-days, the workshop provides space, time, expertise, and peer feedback to help participants create assessments that are both innovative and resilient in the age of GenAI.
Workshop Learning Outcomes:
- Reflect on the purpose/design/goals of the assessment in the course.
- Rethink assessment in light of GenAI.
- Redesign the assessment.
Great ideas often arise from conversations with colleagues. To foster these conversations within the same (or similar) discipline, we encourage you to consider attending with another instructor or a small teaching team from your department. Sharing and developing approaches for GenAI at a program level can help inform decisions you make at a course level.
