Summary

Summary: Adapt this assessment breakdown from JS 231/RCS 231, which includes a proctored, must-pass cumulative final exam aligned with the intended learning outcomes.

Instructional goal: Encouraging students to do the in-term work without using AI, as “practice” for the in-person final exam.

Process: Assessment structure:

  1. Reflection Portfolio where students gather and submit for grading their answers to questions embedded in the online course content pages: 2 submissions x 10% = 20%
  2. Weekly Multiple-Choice Quizzes (best 10 of 12): 10 x 4% = 40%
  3. Must-pass Final Exam: 40%

The Reflection Portfolio and Weekly Quizzes could be completed using AI with very little effort. However, the must-pass final exam includes the same assessment types as students completed during the term. This encourages students to learn the material during the term without relying on AI to generate answers as they will encounter these same types of questions on the final exam.
