Registration for most Homecoming events is included in the form linked below. Some events require separate registration or ticket purchase and are clearly marked in the listings below with links to complete registration.

More Information

One of the longest-standing traditions at the University of Waterloo, the Fun Run will be held on the morning of University of Waterloo Homecoming this Fall. 

About the event

Fun Run participants will have the option of completing a 2.5 km or 5 km run, jog or walk. This event is open to faculty, staff, alumni, students, families with strollers and community members of all ages. This is a fully accessible event. Participants are encouraged to join in on the fun and wear costumes for a chance to win prizes! See Fun Run archives for photos from past events. Music, games and the official warm-up will also add to the fun.

The event will include bib tag technology and results will be posted online as part of an official race in the running community.

Start your day with breakfast at Homecoming Headquarters. Open to alumni and their guests, enjoy a relaxed morning of great food and reconnecting with fellow Waterloo alumni before heading out to explore the day’s activities.

Breakfast will feature:

  • Scrambled eggs (gluten-free and halal)
  • Turkey breakfast sausage (gluten free, halal and dairy free)
  • Pancakes with syrup (vegetarian)
  • A selection of pastries: Mini pecan strudels, croissants, muffins, cinnamon rolls, mini danishes (vegetarian)

The Department of Athletics and Recreation warmly invites Waterloo alumni to explore some of our most exciting offerings on campus. Swing by and discover our very own rock-climbing wall, try out the Golf Simulator, dive into the virtual realm and experience ESPORTS at UWaterloo or try out a spin or yoga class!

The following activities will be available from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: 

  • Esports – Esports Lounge
  • Climbing Wall – PAC 
  • Golf Sim – PAC (Please note that the simulator can accommodate a maximum of four people at a time, so arrive early to get your swings in before hitting the golf course)

The following activities will be available at specific scheduled times:

  • Yoga in the Field House - Time TBC
  • Spin class in Parking Lot W - Time TBC

Instructions and an overview of all programs offered will be provided to each group. Participants will be required to sign a waiver. All climbing equipment will be provided for guests including shoes and harnesses. We ask that all guests wear athletic clothing and bring their own water bottles. Note: Climbing Wall, Golf Sim, Yoga and Spin have participant limits and pre-registration will open in advance of Homecoming. A link to pre-register will be shared with all Homecoming registrants.

Step back in time and explore the evolution of computing at the University of Waterloo. The Computer Museum features a fascinating collection of historic computers, software, artifacts, and interactive exhibits that showcase Waterloo’s role in shaping the digital world. From vintage hardware to stories of innovation and entrepreneurship, this guided tour offers a unique look at the technology that helped transform our lives.

Step inside the Train Lab at the University of Waterloo, a space that appears quiet from the outside but is full of energy within—where miniature trains whir across intricate tracks and students spend countless hours building and testing real-time systems. Led by Dr. Martin Kartsen, this tour offers a glimpse into CS452: Real-Time Programming, a famously challenging course known for its intensity and for the strong sense of community it builds among those who take it.

Join us for a behind-the-scenes introduction to discover what an archive is, what we collect here at Waterloo, and how these materials support teaching, learning, and research for today’s students. The workshop concludes with a guided tour of the stacks, with special stops along the way to view rare and unique items and uncover memorable stories from our campus history. Join fellow Science alumni, friends, and members of the Waterloo community on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Grad House, one of campus's most iconic gathering spaces.

Whether you're returning to campus for the first time in years, reconnecting with classmates, or simply looking for an excuse to gather your old crew, SCI-toberfest offers the perfect blend of nostalgia, celebration and Oktoberfest spirit.

Your ticket includes a delicious selection of Oktoberfest-inspired food, one drink ticket and an evening of live entertainment. The festivities will feature music from The Insouciants rock band, led by drummer and former Chair of Physics and Astronomy Brian McNamara. Rock This Town - Encore!

Saturday, September 19, 2026 | 5 and 7 p.m. | Princess Twin Cinema, Uptown Waterloo 

Celebrate Homecoming with a special double screening of Rock This Town and Rock This Town: A New Wave at Princess Twin Cinema. Explore Waterloo Region’s vibrant live music history, from the rock concert scene of the 1960s and 1970s to the energy and evolution of the local new wave movement in the 1980s.

Rock This Town, produced by Betty Anne Keller (BA ’69), features the late Joe Recchia (BASc ’68, MASc ’71) and other special guests. Rock This Town: A New Wave was produced by Gary Stewart, who was the BENT programmer on the University of Waterloo campus in the 1980s. Together, these films capture the people, performances and moments that shaped generations of local music fans. Relive the music and memories that made history.
