Our need to stay connected has never been greater

Phoebe WongHello again fellow alumni! It's hard to believe that many of us are approaching the one-year anniversary of living and working during a global pandemic. But here we are.

While I dream about the days when we can gather in person, I am still amazed by the number of virtual connections we are able to make every day. This past year, for instance, alumni from Calgary, Ottawa, and across southern Ontario have been able to connect with students at our Alumni in the Hub and Conversations Café mentoring events. Thank you for all of you who have volunteered your time and expertise. If you are interested in speaking in a class or joining a mentor panel, please email us and let us know.

Another way to connect with alumni and students, is to join UWaterloo Arts Café. Into our second year now, we recently passed our 1,000-member mark.  As an alumni mentor myself, I’ve met so many wonderful students — some studying from their home countries without having set foot in Canada.  I encourage you to join me as a mentor. You may meet a few alumni in the process as well.

Please continue to send in your class notes via email to Arts Advancement (include a photo!) — we love hearing your updates and would be pleased to share these personal or professional updates in Arts & Letters.

And finally, save the date! The 2021 Alumni Reunion Weekend happens on June 4 and 5. While we’d love to host you on campus – we hope you will join us virtually from wherever you may be. Arts will be hosting our annual trivia with Humanities, Social Sciences and Creative Arts as the three categories this year. I look forward to connecting with you then!

As always, I welcome the opportunity to speak with you any time, to learn about your experiences while studying at UWaterloo and your path since graduation. Let's discuss how you might engage with the Faculty today. Please contact me at phoebe.wong@uwaterloo.ca
