CoLab Director Katie Plaisance presented research from CoLab’s Engaging Science with Philosophy project at the Philosophy of Science Association conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Plaisance’s talk, “In Their Own Words: What Scientists & Engineers Say About Their Collaborations with Philosophers of Science” discussed findings from interviews with 20 scientists and engineers who had collaborated with philosophers of science, focusing on the benefits, barriers, and success conditions experienced by participants. Notably, participants overwhelmingly reported that the benefits of collaborating with a philosopher of science outweighed the challenges and demands. You can read more about these findings in Dr. Plaisance and Dr. Doody’s paper, “How Philosophy of Science Can Enhance Research in Science and Engineering” or in the shorter Research brief
