CoLab Director Katie Plaisance presented data from a survey of over 2,000 scientists and engineers designed to answer the question, “What Prevents Scientists and Engineers from Collaborating with Philosophers of Science?” This talk was given at the Minnesota Center for Philosophy of Science conference, “Philosophy of Science: Past, Present, and Future,” and shared new findings from CoLab research on Engaging Science with Philosophy. The survey data show that it isn’t a lack of interest on the part of scientists and engineers that stops them from collaborating with philosophers of science, but rather a lack of funding, time, and philosophical background pose more significant barriers; interestingly, philosophers’ scientific background was the least commonly cited barrier.
