CoLab collaborators have published the paper “Moving beyond anecdotes: An empirical investigation of scientists' and engineers' views about and engagement with philosophy of science” in Studies in History and Philosophy of Science. The paper uses survey data from 2,000+ scientists and engineers in Canada and the US to explore their perspectives on and attitudes towards philosophy of science. The paper finds that most scientists and engineers see philosophy of science as having a positive influence on their field, with about half of participants having actually collaborated with philosophers of science. The paper demonstrates why it is important to probe the views of scientists and engineers themselves and suggest that negative sentiments from a few scientists is not representative of the broader scientific community.
