Copyright Act Review: INDU Committee seeking input

Thursday, April 5, 2018

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology (the Committee) plans to consult Canadians in a variety of ways over the next year as part of its review of the Copyright Act. In a news release from March 29, 2018, the committee states that they will consult a variety of experts, across fields, in a three phase approach to their work:

“More specifically, the Committee will hear testimony from:

  • Witnesses representing specific sectors of activity, including publishing, visual arts, software and telecommunications (Phase I);
  • Witnesses representing a range of stakeholders involved in multiple sectors of activity, such as Indigenous communities and various interest groups (Phase II); and
  • Legal experts, including individual lawyers and academics, along with professional associations (Phase III).”

How can you participate?

  • The Committee will be travelling across Canada in May. Stay tuned for a listing of visits in our area.
  • You are invited to send your opinions, comments and recommendations to the Committee, in a short paper (no longer than 2000 words). You can send your brief to indu@parl.gc.ca. More information on how to do this is included in the guide for submitting briefs.
