Antihyperglycemic medications are essential in the management of glycemia and reduce the risk of diabetes-related complications. With multiple therapeutic options available for people with type 2 diabetes, selecting the most appropriate treatment can be complex. At DEcode, we conduct research on the comparative safety and effectiveness of antihyperglycemic medications using large population-based health data. We evaluate how different drug classes and treatment strategies affect clinical outcomes, including glycemic control, cardiovascular health, medication-related harms, and healthcare utilization.
Theme: Real-World Use, Safety and Effectiveness of Diabetes Technology
Diabetes technology is rapidly changing the landscape of diabetes care. Advances, including continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), insulin delivery systems,
and digital health tools have the potential to improve diabetes management and outcomes. At the DEcode Program, we evaluate the effectiveness, safety,
implementation, and accessibility of diabetes technologies in real-world settings. Our research generates evidence to support clinical decision-making, guide
policy, and improve equitable access to innovative diabetes care.
Theme: Health Services and Pharmaceutical Policy Research in Diabetes Management
The landscape of diabetes care has changed dramatically with advances in medications, technologies, and healthcare delivery. Effective management of
diabetes requires not only engagement from individuals and healthcare providers, but also health systems and policies that support access to high-quality care.
Through health services and pharmaceutical policy research, our team evaluates how healthcare programs, medication policies, and models of care affect
diabetes management and outcomes, generating evidence to inform policy and improve care for people living with diabetes.
Theme: Drug-Induced Dysglycemia
Many medications used to treat common health conditions can unintentionally disrupt blood glucose regulation, leading to hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, or
even the development of diabetes. Drug-induced dysglycemia can complicate disease management, increase the risk of adverse health outcomes, and place an
additional burden on patients and healthcare systems. At DEcode, we conduct research to identify medications associated with dysglycemia and evaluate their
impact on health outcomes using large population-based health data. Our work helps inform safer prescribing practices, supports early identification of
individuals at risk, and contributes to strategies for preventing medication-related harms.
