The SCEI was created in conjunction with the Canadian Engineering Education Association to answer the following research questions:

  • What are the current instructor attitudes about teaching and learning?
  • What are the current faculty attitudes about the role of the instructor and their duties in both the course and institution?
  • What are the current faculty attitudes toward, and engagement in, professional development activities related to teaching?

University of Waterloo Engineering instructors were invited to complete the survey in early 2015. Other institutions participating in the study to date are listed below:

  • Calgary
  • Manitoba
  • McGill
  • Queen's
  • Ryerson
  • Saskatchewan
  • Windsor

The preliminary survey results (including responses received up to April 2015) are outlined in the SCEI interim report (PDF). Waterloo Engineering had a strong presence in the results presented in this Interim Report, as 64 of the 164 responses (39%) were from our faculty members.
