Why we disagree about the food crisis: A critical review of debates and disagreements about global food security

Most commentators agree that population growth, energy prices, and climate change threaten food security. But few agree on the best strategies to tackle this problem. This paper explores debates over solutions to global food security and identifies four “types” of solution:
- To increase food production through technology;
- To reduce waste and pollution through better management;
- To promote alternative, bio-diverse, and local production;
- To distribute food more equitably. The analysis concludes with an integrated framework that shows how future food security strategies must incorporate elements of all four positions.
Please feel free to bring your lunch. I hope you can join us!
