APHEO-OPHEN presentation

Following his recognition as the recipient of the 2026 Elaine Hector Student Award, Edson Kenzo Takei successfully presented his award-winning research at the 2026 APHEO-OPHEN Conference.

Edson delivered his presentation as part of the keynote session, "Full Sailing into Artificial Intelligence!", which explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in public health practice. His presentation, "Leveraging AI to assess quality of AI scribe tools for infectious disease case management," was co-presented with Michael Whyte of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and examined innovative approaches to evaluating the quality, reliability, and performance of AI-powered clinical documentation tools.

The session brought together public health professionals, researchers, and practitioners interested in understanding how emerging AI technologies can be effectively integrated into health systems. Edson's work contributed to important discussions about ensuring that AI tools are not only adopted, but also rigorously assessed to support safe, effective, and high-quality public health practice.

The presentation aligned closely with the conference's focus on advancing innovative methodologies, strengthening performance measurement and evaluation, and promoting continuous quality improvement across public health organizations.

Congratulations again to Edson on both his successful presentation and his recognition through the Elaine Hector Student Award. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of this important work as AI technologies become increasingly integrated into public health practice.
