Full Sailing into Artificial Intelligence!

Monday, April 13, 2026

A long-time member of the GenAI for Health lab will be featured at this year’s 2026 APHEO-OPHEN Conference, contributing to a keynote session focused on the expanding role of artificial intelligence in public health.

Edson Kenzo Takei will present as part of the “Full Sailing into Artificial Intelligence!” session, which brings together two presentations exploring how AI is shaping health system practice. His talk, titled “Leveraging AI to assess quality of AI scribe tools for infectious disease case management,” is co-presented with Michael Whyte of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health and examines how AI can be used to evaluate the quality and reliability of AI-powered clinical documentation tools in infectious disease contexts.

The session aligns with the conference’s broader objectives, including sharing innovative methodologies in population health assessment, advancing performance measurement and evaluation, and promoting continuous quality improvement in public health practice. It also reflects a strong focus on adapting to evolving public health challenges and strengthening cross-disciplinary collaboration through shared learning and reflection.

As interest in AI-driven tools continues to grow, this work highlights the importance of not only adopting new technologies, but also rigorously assessing their impact and effectiveness in real-world settings.

Congratulations Edson!
