A scholarship, valued at $5000 will be awarded annually to a full-time UW master's/doctoral student registered in the Chemical Engineering program in the Faculty of Engineering. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student on the basis of scholastic excellence (minimum 80% ). Preference will be given to a student who holds an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) or another major external scholarship that requires a matching or enhancement component. If the match or enhancement becomes unavailable or a suitable recipient cannot be found, the funds will be paid out as a regular graduate scholarship. This scholarship has been established by Dr. Ibrahim Elgammal, the President of G.A. Paper International and a Waterloo Engineering alumnus to honour his and his son, Tarek's time at Waterloo and to encourage students to pursue graduate studies.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
