Karlyn Dion is a Master of Sustainability Management student at the School of Environment, Enterprise, and Development (SEED) in the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and an Environmental Assessment diploma from the University of Waterloo.
Karlyn’s research focuses on exploring the preferred knowledge mobilization formats for enabling climate action among Canadian municipal staff. This research is under the Municipal Net-Zero Action Research Partnership (N-ZAP), specifically contributing to Working Group 5: Knowledge Mobilization supporting the national dissemination of tools, training, and resources to municipalities across Canada.
Through various co-op positions, Karlyn has worked in the municipal and private waste management sector in Ontario. Additionally, she has worked on environmental permissions and reporting in the provincial and private sector. She is also currently working at ICLEI Canada as an Intern, focusing on their Building to Net-Zero (BNZ) project that supports small to mid-sized municipalities in the adoption of frameworks that advance local building energy performance.
Karlyn is passionate about helping others become more sustainable and is committed to working with local stakeholders to help build local capacity and overcome barriers along the journey to a net-zero future.
Karlyn joined the team in September 2024.
