Mark Goudsblom is a PhD candidate in the Sustainability Management program at the University of Waterloo. Mark’s interests include research in organizational change and management and improving deep decarbonization efforts through policy and action. Specifically, how to enhance the management systems in local governments to support climate mitigation policy and action within their organization.
Mark is interested in researching how current sustainable cities structure themselves around and in support of sustainable initiatives. His goal through his research is to develop recommendations for local governments to make improvements to the organizational structure, governance, resourcing, policy and alignment in order to support climate mitigation action.
Mark is an administrative professional with over two decades of senior leadership experience in the public sector in British Columbia, Canada. He has worked in both the healthcare and post-secondary sectors, and in those settings he has worked with local communities and cities in the advancement of healthy living and sustainable development. Currently, Mark serves in the role of Executive Director, Planetary Health for the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) in BC. In his role he is responsible for Planetary Health, energy reduction, GHG reduction, planning & reporting, policy development and driving sustainability in organizational operations and the built environment.
Mark believes that sound sustainability management is foundational to future organizational success and, as a result, the success and health of the people it serves.
Mark obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Victoria (BC), prior to completing two Masters: A Master’s in Health Studies from Athabasca University (AB) and a Master’s in Global Leadership from Royal Roads University (BC).
Mark joined the team in September 2023.
