Build to Belong is a free, one-day event at the University of Waterloo for high school students (Grades 9–12) who identify as Black, Indigenous, immigrant, 2SLGBTIA+, or belonging to other equity-deserving communities. No prior science or tech experience is needed - just curiosity!

Spend the day exploring the technology behind human movement and health.  In the morning, you will rotate through university labs and get hands-on with the same tools used by real researchers, including motion capture, virtual reality, and equipment used in sport science and rehabilitation.  At lunch, you will sit down with graduate students and professors from diverse backgrounds for casual conversation about university life, career paths, and whatever is on your mind.  In the afternoon, you will build and experiment with your very own wearable biosensor that you will take home with you at the end of the day.

This event is completely free, including lunch. Spots are limited, so register early!

Build to Belong is a collaborative initiative with the Faculty of Health’s Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-AR) and National Biomechanics Initiative. For questions, contact Rob Hicks at rahicks@uwaterloo.ca
