As part of the Library’s mission to make high quality learning materials freely accessible and available to the Waterloo campus community, the Instructional Design (ID) team has a unique role, both within the Library and within the Waterloo campus community.
The ID team helps bridge the gap between subject matter experts’ wealth of knowledge and the existence of accessible, inclusive, adaptable and open instructional materials. With expertise in how people learn, they work collaboratively with liaison librarians and other subject matter experts on campus to create learning materials, which are then hosted on the Library’s Online Learning Object Repository (OLOR), available to all.
As part of their work, the ID team also ensures openness and full accessibility of all learning objects on OLOR, meeting or exceeding Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) 2025 compliance.
The ID team is continuously working to add new materials to OLOR. From developing materials related to information on Indigenous Citations to creating videos that featured gamified learning about Generative AI, the IG team is collaborating on a variety of topics that support the learning, research and instruction happening at Waterloo and beyond.
