It's Open Access Week! The Library supports Open Access (OA), which is scholarly content freely available to anyone with an Internet connection, without barriers. The Library can assist University of Waterloo authors and researchers who wish to make their work freely available, either by depositing their work in an Open Access repository (UWSpace), or publishing work in an OA journal.
Some publishers offer Waterloo researchers discounts on article processing charges (APCs), which is great news now that Open Access publishing is requirement of Tri-agency funding.
Here is a list of publishers that offer discounts through the Library's subscriptions and memberships:

The discount is on the AuthorChoice license. Waterloo authors are eligible for an “Affiliation” discount. ACS members may use both their Member and Affiliate discounts concurrently. | BioMed Central | 15% | The Library subscribes to a BioMed Central membership, which affords Waterloo researchers a discount on publication fees. More information is available on the BioMed Central membership page. |
| MDPI | 10% | Discounts are provided through the Institutional Open Access Program. |
| NRC Research Press | 50% | NRC's open access page describes the various open access options offered. |
| Sage | 40% |
Sage provides a page on author information for open access publishing. There are a few steps to proceeding with this discount. If you would like to use the Sage discount please send a message to copyright@uwaterloo.ca. |
| Springer Open | 15% | Discount is on SpringerOpen Books and Journals, and does not apply to Springer's subscription titles with OA options. More information is available on the Springer Open access membership site. |
