Borrowing privileges

Library patrons have the following borrowing privileges:

  • Request material from 16 Ontario university libraries via the new easy-to-use academic search tool Omni.

  • Most items will be signed out for 120 days with an option for renewal.

Students, faculty, staff, and retirees

  • may borrow up to 500 items in total with loan periods of:

    • 120 day loan period for most items.

    • 14 day loan for journals.

  • have access to licensed electronic resources.

  • use Interlibrary loans (ILL) to request materials from beyond the OMNI consortia free of charge.

Library privileges for students on parental leave can be extended for up to five terms past last registration providing the student is planning to return. Students planning on going on parental leave must email us to request this extension.

Alumni

  • may borrow up to 20 books with loan period of 120 days from University of Waterloo and the Annex.
  • have access to specific electronic resources for personal, non-commercial use.

Community borrowers

Community borrowers may borrow up to 20 books with loan period of 120 days for books from University of Waterloo and the Annex.

Other loans

Various loan periods are issued for other types of material, such as Waterloo Reads, government publications, controlled access material, theses and equipment borrowed from the Circulation desk. Please consult with the Circulation desk staff for more information.
