On May 24th, grade nine and ten girls from Vancouver and surrounding areas, spent a Saturday occupying the hallways and classrooms of York House School in Kitsilano. The goal – to confront head-on the damaging and discouraging stereotypes related to math. To ‘think about math’ in new and exciting ways.
Growing up 1400 kilometres apart, it was a mutual fascination of computers that drew teenagers April Gale-Seixeiro (BMath '95, Actuarial Science and Statistics) and Steve Seixeiro (BMath '95, Computer Science) to the University of Waterloo. Who could have known that a chance meeting on the fourth day of frosh week would, two decades later, make dreams come true for future UWaterloo students.
